Welcome to Queen of Angels

Educating for Tomorrow

Queen of Angels Church was the first Church established by and for African Americans of the Roman Catholic faith in the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey.  Queen of Angels began as a mission in 1926 and became a parish in 1930.  Moving from Academy Street to its present structure in 1959, the parish has become a major center for religious, educational and social activity.

Queen of Angels School was established in 1963 by its parishioners to provide a quality Catholic education for its children.  The Oblate Sisters of Providence, a congregation of African American teaching sisters were the school’s first administrators and teachers, along with lay colleagues.  The Marist Brothers of the Schools, assumed the administration of Queen of Angels School in 1976 at the request of parents and guardians.

The present administration is the first female lay administration to assume the reins of command at Queen of Angels School.  Both the principal and vice principal have a combined total of over 40 years invested in the education of the children of Queen of Angels School.
